Built over four centuries ago during the construction of Valletta, the house forms part of one of the city’s oldest residential streets. Crafted from traditional Maltese limestone, its thick walls, high ceilings and original architectural features have witnessed the evolution of Malta through the centuries—from the era of the Knights of St. John, through British rule, to the vibrant European capital Valletta has become today.

⚔️ Why is the Area Called “Due Balli”?
The neighbourhood surrounding the house is known as Due Balli, Italian for “The Two Bailiffs.”
The name dates back to the 16th century when two Grand Bailiffs of the Order of St. John are believed to have owned or occupied neighbouring residences in this part of Lower Valletta.
As some of the Order’s highest-ranking officials, the Grand Bailiffs played an important role in Malta’s military defence, advising the Grand Master and overseeing aspects of the island’s formidable fortifications.
Today, Due Balli remains one of Valletta’s most authentic and character-filled neighbourhoods—quiet, historic and only moments away from the city’s most famous landmarks.
